This paper describes design studies undertaken on our proposed collision avoidance radar for UAV's. The studies indicate the proposed design will meet the requirement for an unmanned aircraft to have an autonomous collision avoidance capability better than a piloted aircraft. The proposed design is for a MIMO radar forming multiple staring beams giving near spherical cover. The design studies have established the radar performance profile. This was then validated by dynamically modelling several UAV platforms incorporating the radar capability on a variety of collision and nearmiss tracks.
