Programme Office

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory is based at three sites at Porton Down near Salisbury, Portsdown West near Portsmouth and Fort Halstead near Sevenoaks.

A new Programme Office has been created in Dstl that assumes responsibility from 1 April 2010 for contracts previously managed through the Defence Technology and Innovation Centre (DTIC).

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

  • The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) leads the science and technology (S&T) sector’s response to the Ministry of Defence’s current and future needs. Dstl’s work saves lives in the UK, overseas and on the frontline.
  • Dstl maximises the impact of S&T for defence and security requirements, working with industry and academia to deliver battle-winning technologies – identifying S&T advances and pulling ideas rapidly into service.
  • Dstl also works with other government departments, exploiting its expertise and knowledge to improve the safety and security of UK citizens.
  • Dstl is a trading fund of the MOD, accountable to government, to the taxpayer and the troops it supports in the field every day.

Full details about Dstl can be found at www.dstl.gov.uk.

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is the key focus for science and technology (S&T) within the Ministry of Defence (MOD). From 1 April 2010, working with industry and academia to create battle-winning technologies, Dstl is responsible for leading the defence science and technology research programme - designing, formulating and commissioning programmes with industry (large and small), academia and other research organisations.

The Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) is also part of the new Programme Office, but its contact details remain unchanged and can be found on the CDE web pages.
