- If ethical approval is needed, download
MODREC Application Form
MODREC Application Form Guide
- Send completed application form to mnjones@dstl.gov.uk and make sure you receive an acknowledgement. This will include:
i. a reference number – please quote this in all subsequent correspondence and future
versions of your protocol
ii. details of which Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) your protocol has been sent to
- The SAC chairman will send you comments from the members of that committee, usually
within 2 weeks. Revise your protocol and return it to the SAC chairman.
- When your protocol has achieved SAC approval, the SAC chairman will inform you and
forward your protocol to MODREC for ethical review.
- If the proposed research procedures fall within the Schedule of Approved Procedures, your
protocol can be considered ex-committee by the chairman, so saving time. Otherwise it will be put on the agenda for the next MODREC meeting.
- You will normally be invited to attend this meeting to answer questions from the Committee.
- If your research requires an independent medical (IMO) officer both you and he should be
familiar with the IMO Guidance.
- Further information can be found under Frequently Asked Questions.
- If at any stage you need help, please ask. Our job is to help you achieve ethical approval –
