11/07/2012 - Call Closes Wed 11 July 2012 at 1700
This is a CDE call for research proposals for 'Enhancing Land Mobility'.
- Standoff capability to survey terrain and make ground assessment.
- Next generation track to improve endurance, reliability and impact on the platform.
- Call closes Wednesday 11 July 2012 (at 17:00).
The ability to move around and be effective on the battlefield at will is a critical requirement for UK Armed Forces. To maintain this military advantage, research is required to generate new and improved capabilities. This CDE call is looking for innovative proposals for technologies to improve the speed, agility and durability of land forces to manoeuvre across the battlefield.
This CDE call for research proposals is seeking to solve two challenges:
- Reduce, or ideally eliminate, the need for soldiers to be on foot and exposed to hostile action, when surveying terrain and making assessment for ground manoeuvre.
- Next generation track systems (track, running gear etc.) across the breadth of tracked land systems, in order to improve a range of performance metrics (e.g. track reliability, weight, crew ride and platform vibrations).
Although proposals are sought that would ultimately lead to exploitation in 2020 to 2035 (earlier maturation dates may also still find opportunities for exploitation), this call covers only the proof-of-concept stage research. Outputs are anticipated to include either paper concepts or component demonstrators that are sufficient to show the credibility of an eventual solution. Significant drivers across all potential proposals include low cost (throughout lifecycle), low burden, flexibility of deployment and use, and robustness.
Technologies that have previously been submitted to MOD for review will not be considered unless they are significantly different or new evidence can be provided as to why they should be considered. This call is not seeking proposals for HUMS (Health Usage Monitoring Systems).
A call document and presentations from the launch event are provided below.
The call will close Wednesday 11 July 2012 at 17:00.
All proposals must be submitted via the CDE portal.
For general queries and information on portal accounts, please contact CDE on cde@dstl.gov.uk or 01235 438445.
For technical queries please contact the Dstl mobility team on mobility@dstl.gov.uk. Please note that capacity to answer these queries is limited in terms of volume and scope. Queries should be limited to a few simple questions or if provided with a short (few paragraphs) description of your proposal, the technical team will provide, without commitment or prejudice, broad yes/no answers. This query facility is not to be used for extensive technical discussions, detailed review of proposals or supporting the iterative development of ideas. Whilst all reasonable efforts will be made to answer queries, CDE and Dstl reserve the right to impose management controls when higher than average volumes of queries or resource demands restrict fair access to all potential proposal submitters.
