The Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE), part of MOD's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), aims to enhance innovation in defence research and development by:
A comprehensive engagement programme, including seminars, workshops and one-to-one surgeries, supports delivery of a web-based enduring 'open call' for innovative proposals and a series of specific 'themed call' challenges.
CDE holds regular open engagement events, specific calls for proposals (see below), one-to-one surgeries and 'marketplace' events.
Future events are listed with brief descriptions and for CDE events you will be able to apply online. Due to high demand, attendance is normally limited to a maximum of two people from any one organisation.
Current calls are CDE calls for research proposals that have formally launched and have not yet closed. These pages will normally include a 'call document' which describes the call, its challenges and any special considerations as well as online copies of presentations used in any launch event.
Where possible we will continue to publish online copies of presentations from events and calls under Past events. Although these are 'past' documents, many are still relevant and provide an excellent resource to understand the broader picture. Many of the challenges that they contain are enduring needs where research proposals are always welcome.
We have also included other events that may be of interest to the science and technology community but are not necessarily directly connected to CDE, Dstl or MOD. Some of these events may be commercial and some may charge fee. MOD makes no recommendation and takes no responsibility for these events.
As well as our enduring 'open call' for innovative proposals, we regularly call for proposals to address specific 'themed call' challenges. These are normally launched at a CDE seminar. Upcoming calls will appear under future events. After the event they will move to current calls for proposals until the deadline expires, thereafter all information will be archived under past events.
These 'themed calls' use the same CDE submission process as the 'open call' but are different in three ways:
